What's a Business For?

Hello again! The readings and videos from this week were, once again, inspiring. I especially liked the 2002 Harvard Business Review article, What's a Business for? by author Charles Handy. Charles Handy discusses many things relating to businesses in our capitalistic society. In the first couple of pages, he poses a question: Could Capitalists actually bring down capitalism? Charles sees it as a distinct possibility, as do I. The current system of capitalism and wealth generation are governed by rules and laws. There is also a shared belief that one can trust and believe that those rules and laws will be followed. The stock market demonstrates this very well. It is an incredible engine to generate wealth and spur innovation and company growth. It is also a system to help identify areas / companies that are no longer relevant and tears them down to make room for new companies to take their shot. E-Journey Week 11

The readings from this past week were particularly meaningful and engaging. I read messages from the president of the church to successful entrepreneurs and their messages were all inspiring. There are few thoughts I wanted to share this week: My attitude toward money: I feel as if I have a pretty healthy attitude towards money. I grew up in fairly humble circumstances and gotten to a point where my family and I are living comfortably. I would say I've been the same level of "happy" in either situation. I also recognize that any fluctuation in that level was not due to how much money I had in the bank. Despite that, I would consider myself a very ambitious individual but my motivation is for that of the respect of my peers and the security of my family. How one views money can have a significant impact on your life. I agreed with the Attitude On Money  in that money is not inherently good or evil. What that money is used for or the actions one takes to get their money...
